The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of three methods of Barlow`s unified transdiagnostic treatment, Emotion- focused therapy and mindfulness on the body mass index of adults with obesity. The statistical population included all people with obesity in Tehran, that according to Cohen's table, 60 people were selected by available sampling method according to the inclusion criteria and were randomly assigned in four groups of Barlow`s unified transdiagnostic treatment, Emotion- focused therapy, mindfulness and Control. Participants' body mass index was measured as pre-test, post-test, and follow-up at three time stages before treatment, after treatment and three months after treatment. Data were analyzed using SPSS software, version 21 and mixed analysis of variance. The results showed that there was a significant difference in body mass index between pre-test, post-test and follow-up scores in four groups and between the effect of mindfulness experimental group with Barlow`s unified transdiagnostic treatment group and control group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference between mindfulness and emotion-focused therapy group and between Barlow`s unified transdiagnostic treatment and emotion-focused therapy group and each of them with control group (p > 0.05). Comparison of adjusted averages showed that the scores of this variable in the mindfulness test group decreased in the post-test and follow-up phase compared to the other three groups (Barlow`s unified transdiagnostic, emotion-focused and control groups). Also, with respect to the difference in the pre-test phase compared to the follow-up, mindfulness-based therapy was sustained. Therefore, based on the findings of this study, it can be said that mindfulness based therapy can reduce the body mass index with obesity.
